Classification

Brazing alloys are classified according to AWS A5.8/A5.8M SPECIFICATION FOR FILLER METALS FOR BRAZING AND BRAZE WELDING (2004). Similar to a chemical composition, it comunicates the alloys present.

Silver Brazing Alloys

Safety-Silv A45 - BAg-5 - 45% Silver - Good for small fillets

Safety-Silv A50N - BAg-24 - 50% Silver, 2% Nickel - Similar to 56% but with a higher melting point.

Safety-Silv A56T - BAg-7 - 56% Silver. It is said to be the flowiest of the higher strength silvers. Very low melting point. It is very expensive stuff, about $30 per troy ounce.

Sivaloy A45 - BAg-5, from Praxair, 1/32", P/N WJT 57321, $25.73 per oz.

Brass Based Alloys

GasFlux C-04® Nickel Bronze - RBCuZn-B - For fillets

Aufhauser C680 Low Fumeing Nickel Bronze - RBCuZn-B - For fillets

Fluxes

Fluxes are specified per AWS A5.31 SPECIFICATION FOR FLUXES FOR BRAZING AND BRAZE WELDING

STAY-SILV White Flux - AWS 5.31-92, CLASS FB3A - For silver brazing steels.

STAY-SILV Black Flux - AWS TYPE 5.31-92, Class FB3C -For silver brazing stainless steels.

Aufhouser Flux600 - ANSI/AWS A5.31, Class FB3-J - for use with Aufhouser C-680

Handy & Harman Handy Flux Paste - Class FB3A
