UPS

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/dim_weight.html

For UPS Ground Shipments: If the cubic size of the package is 5,184 or larger, divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. If the cubic size is less than 5,184, use the actual weight of the package.
For UPS Air Shipments: Divide the cubic size by 194 to determine dimensional weight in pounds. Any fraction of a pound will be calculated at the next highest rate.

Your UPS domestic or UPS Standard package is considered a Large Package when its length, combined with twice the width plus twice the height, exceeds 130 inches and is equal to or less than 165 inches.
Large Packages are subject to a minimum billable weight of 90 pounds.

To determine the rate for single-package shipments with a dimensional weight of 150 pounds or more, multiply the package weight by the price per pound multiplier.

Examples: 50x30x10=15000, 50+2x30+2x10=130, 15000/194=77.3 - Max weight 77 lbs.

FedEx

http://www.ups.com/content/us/en/resources/prepare/dim_weight.html

The Dimensional Weight calculator does not apply to FedEx Ground. For FedEx Ground packages:

A package weighing less than 30 lbs. and measuring more than 84 inches and equal to or less than 108 inches in combined length and girth will be classified as an Oversize 1 (OS1) package. The transportation charges for an Oversize 1 (OS1) package will be the same as a 30-lb. package being transported under the same circumstances.

A package weighing less than 50 lbs. and measuring more than 108 inches in combined length and girth will be classified as an Oversize 2 (OS2) package. The transportation charges for an Oversize 2 (OS2) package will be the same as a 50-lb. package being transported under the same circumstances.

A package weighing less than 90 lbs. and measuring greater than 130” in length and girth will be classified by FedEx Ground and an Oversize 3 (OS3) package. The transportation charges for an OS3 package will be the same as a 90-lb. package being transported under the same circumstances.

Examples: A bike box is OS3, 90lb cost
