Hacking for fun and profit.

I found someone’s old Nikon Coolpix P2 while cleaning up the other day. It was missing a battery and charger that would have been far to expensive to replace on an old camera that I didn’t even need. What to do……?

HACK!

Hacking into something for fun is a great way to learn. You learn how to take things apart and work on them. At the very least you get to see how they work. Especially when the goal isn’t to fix anything, you are free to cut and break your way in. I recomend using the correct tools and proceedure as practice is good for novices while learning. Knowing the right technique at the right time is crucial.

Do your best then slash and burn. It’s about fun.

We learned a few fun things on this one. Firstly, that I need to get a few tri-wing drivers for the next time I go into these types of systems. Second, the capacitors that are used for the flash on these things are amazingly powerful and small. A good source if you can’t find a generic.

In this case, my workmate Anthony was thrilled about the capacitor and the wifi circuit. I was thrilled about the capacitor and the lens/sensor assembly. I’ll be breaking into that when I get back from vacation.
